Point, Learn, Explore!
Unlike any competitor, iST’s patented technology answers specifically ‘what’s that?’, not just ‘what is around me?’, with great accuracy, enabling people to point, learn and explore. This technology offers a new and unique way for people to interact with their surrounding environment.
The iPointer® technology enables the consumer to point their location and orientation-enabled mobile device at a landmark of interest, such as a retailer, restaurant, or historic site, press a button, and receive rich content; pictures, menus, and audio overviews, specific to that point without the need for explicit web searches, typing information into the phone, or taking a picture. A consumer could also point at different heights on a building or at a building behind the one in front of them and retrieve data and other content in the same manner.
Imagine using an iPointer®-enabled device in London. You set the device to receive information in French, your native language. As you move about the city you can simply point the device at establishments, like a TV remote for the real world, and receive information such as pictures, menus and reviews left by earlier travelers. If you feel adventurous you can dine at a small eatery you pointed to which appeared to have a lot of local flavor but offered no reviews. While eating, you can use the device to find cultural information on tipping waiters, how to ask for another drink, etc. After eating, you can point the device at the restaurant again, select 'review' and enter your experience for the next traveler. In sum, the iPointer® provides a single integrated platform for delivering next generation Location-based Services today.
The iPointer® Client collects coordinates from the phone's GPS and directional angles from the digital Compass then sends these over the data network to the iPointer® Server. In milliseconds, the algorithms on the iPointer® Server use 3D models, Latitude, Longitude and compass angle to identify the most likely landmark the user is pointing to. The iPointer® algorithms use a semantic model of the scene as perceived by the user in the real world to allow more flexible and robust queries. Data is aggregated from many different sources in order to deliver the most egocentric and rich content for the optimum user experience.
The iPointer® mobile search and content delivery platform is network and carrier agnostic and will run on any mobile communication devices with a GPS, Digital Compass, and a wireless data connection. Our customers benefit from the dynamic content retrieval and update capabilities of our web-based geospatial search engine and content delivery architecture.
