The iPointer® empowers users to explore the world around them, pointing and learning based on geographic location and orientation.
For example, our patented pointing based search technology enables mobile users to identify a building, landmark, or other points of interest, by simply pointing their iPointer®-enabled handset and pressing a button. The iPointer® Client running on their PDA, cellphone or other mobile communication device collects coordinate signals from GPS satellites and orientation information from a digital magnetic Compass to identify the user’s location and pointing direction. These coordinates are then sent to the iPointer® Server, where iST’s patented geospatial selection algorithms identify the selected object. Location-specific information is then selected and sent back over the wireless network to the user’s device.
The iPointer® Platform’s advantage lies in its architecture - a ‘thin’ client API running on the handset communicating over the Internet with a powerful Geospatial Search Engine running on a scalable server infrastructure. In addition to Pointing Based Search, the iPointer® enables other location based services, such as proximity based search and alerting, Geotagging, GPS tracking, targeted advertising, and new methods of pedestrian navigation. In short, the iPointer® is the industry’s most innovative platform for developing next generation mobile applications and getting them into market quickly.
